Projects

We continue to evolve to protect our community

The Current increase in traffic of off road vehicles, hikers, cyclists, and hunters in remote areas of our coverage area, has increased the risk of incidents.  We as a department have decided we need to equip our department with an apparatus to help us reach the remote areas faster and more efficiently.  Bring to light our UTV project we are hoping to complete by end of 2025.

DVFD 2025 UTV Project

  • Crew Cab UTV with HVAC

  • Skid for Firefighting

  • Skid for EMS

  • Enclosed trailer

  • Tracks For all weather response

The above components of this project with give us the preparedness to respond to various incidents with all the right tools for the situation.  The trailer will be packed with the things we need for rescue or fire with quick change capabilities.    This project will help reduce response as we will be able to hook up and go with out packing extra items.

Help Us Reach Those Who Need Us Most When Every Minute Matters!

The Dickinson Fire Department proudly serves the rugged foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, a region known for its wild beauty and growing popularity among outdoor enthusiasts. Our district covers an expansive and diverse landscape, including hiking and multi-use trails, dense state forests, and rural recreational areas such as Azure Mountain, Conger Mountain, and the Deer River State Forest.

Each year, we respond to emergencies across over 100 miles of snowmobile and ATV/UTV trails, as well as hundreds of remote hunting camps. With the expansion of the Adirondack Rail Trail and as traffic from hikers, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts continues to rise, so does the demand on our department.

While we're proud to be part of the automatic response network for our region, many parts of our service area remain challenging to reach. In fact, mutual aid response times for large sections of our district often exceed 60 minutes, placing injured individuals outside the critical golden hour for emergency treatment. Just this summer, we were called to a bicycle accident with injuries in a remote location, reinforcing the urgent need for faster, more adaptable response capabilities.

That's why we're asking for your help.

We're working to raise $65,000 to purchase a specialized off-road rescue unit and transport trailer for regional response, one that will allow us to reach patients faster, navigate difficult terrain, and deliver life-saving care when and where it's needed most.  The Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department has secured a substantial portion of the funding to date.

This vital project includes:

  • A crew cab enclosed UTV with both track and wheel systems for 4-season use.

  • A rescue skid, enabling EMTs to travel safely with patients.

  • A firefighting skid to address wildland and brush fires.

  • An enclosed trailer to transport and store the unit and critical equipment.

This apparatus won't just serve Dickinson. It will strengthen emergency response efforts across neighboring towns as well, supporting regional tourism, recreation safety, and mutual aid in collaboration with the Franklin County Mutual Aid Plan, the St. Regis Falls EMS, and the Dickinson Fire District.

Your support today will help save lives tomorrow.

Whether you're a local resident, a visitor who enjoys our trails, or a business invested in the growth and safety of our region, we invite you to be a part of this critical effort. Every dollar brings us one step closer to closing the gap in emergency response and delivering care where and when it's needed most.
